Batemans provide a friendly and professional fine art, antiques and collectables auction and valuation service. Whether you have a whole house to clear or just a few treasured items to sell, we can advise on selling at auction.
We are pleased to offer free valuations on Monday to Friday. Items can be brought to our office between the hours of 10am - 5pm, no appointment is necessary, and one of our valuers will be able to tell you more about the piece and give you an idea as to value and probable auction estimate. Valuations at other times in the week can be arranged by appointment via the office on 01780 766466.
For larger items, or large quantities, we can view items at home if more convenient, again free of charge.
Collection and delivery of goods for consignment to auction can be arranged using our own transport.
Valuations can also be requested via email by sending attached images and descriptions to info@batemans-auctions.co.uk. Please note that due to the large number of emails we receive it may take up to a week to receive a reply via email.
Batemans provide a fast, efficient and professional house clearance service, whereby we visit the property to be cleared and advise on the saleability of the contents. All saleable items are then entered into either our Antiques & collectables or our Modern Household sales, held monthly (whichever is most suitable). We arrange packing and transport of these items to the saleroom in our own tail-lift transport. Having the necessary Waste Carriers License and Tipping Licenses, we also dispose of any goods that are not suitable for sale at auction, leaving the property completely empty and ready for sale or occupation. We pride ourselves on being able to completely clear a property within one week of request, providing an invaluable service to solicitors, estate agents and executors of deceased estates.
Costs of House Clearance:
Initial Valuation Visit: Free of Charge.
Clearance of property / Transport of saleable items to saleroom: £45 plus VAT per hour for two men in our own transport.
All items entered for sale at auction sold subject to our usual lot fees and commission.
Disposal of any unsaleable items: £145 plus VAT per skipload equivalent.
Valuations and inventories of home contents and personal effects (chattels) are extremely useful tools to the executor or trustee of an estate, who may have to identify individual items that have been bequeathed or passed on in Trust to others.
The professional adviser to the estate (usually a solicitor) will advise you if a valuation is required for taxation purposes. Values can be put to individual items or given as an overall figure as appropriate.
Having viewed the items to be valued, we will provide you with a valuation report that usually comprises an inventory (with individual items fully described, where necessary) and an overall total for Probate purposes. Two copies of this report will be provided to you and / or your solicitors.
Cost of Probate Valuation: £85 plus VAT per hour.
It is important to provide your insurers with an accurate written valuation to obtain the most suitable cover for your items and to make sure that you are neither over nor under-insured.
Following our valuer’s visit to your premises to view the items to be insured, (or having viewed them at our premises) we will provide you with a typed valuation report. This will contain a full description of each item, the basis of the valuation and its suggested reinstatement value for insurance purposes. Two copies of the final report will be dispatched to you.
Cost of Insurance Valuation: £85 plus VAT per hour.
Batemans offers an optional digital photographic service for Probate and Insurance valuations. Images of specific items are added to the report and saved on CD to accompany the valuation. This can be especially useful. For insurance purposes, if items are ever stolen it provides an extremely effective tool in enabling the police to recover the stolen items, to prove ownership, and to settle insurance claims quickly and efficiently. For Probate purposes, it enables items that have been bequeathed to be quickly identified for appropriate distribution.
We can also provide valuations of fixtures and fittings for those moving house and for the purposes of family division.
